Behind the scenes- new paintings in the process

Hey guys!

I’m really excited to announce that I’m working on new paintings.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably have noticed that I like to work on canvases and paper.

I’ve noticed that this is the best way for me. I like to switch between working on canvases and paper.

Working on smaller paintings ( on paper) lets me try new color combinations. I love it because working on smaller paintings removes the fear of messing things up.

The paintings that I’m currently working on are both 23x27,5”

The painting that I’m holding on the photo below, shows my painting Lost in the beauty. When I started working on the canvas, I used this painting as a color inspiration.

I’m sure the painting will probably change a lot in the process but it was really nice to start with these soft pinks.

How art has improved my mental health

It’s a chilly October evening in Estonia. I’m sitting on the couch with my cat Mia and sipping my favourite green tea. It was a National Mental Health day recently and I thought I’ll share a little bit my story-how art has improved my mental health.

Those of you who are new here, I have social anxiety. Fortunately I have learned to control the panic attacks.

Did you know that creating art has power to reduce the stress, improve your mood and lower anxiety levels?

I have loved painting since I was a child. I always loved to paint something. Whether it was a still life object or some kind of animal.

When I was in high school, every time when I was exhausted from homework and needed to get my mind off, I would get a little notebook and just sketched something. Most of the time I sketched just some shapes and drew faces. I found that very relaxing.

I create art to express myself in ways that I can’t with words. I love that about art. I love that you can use colors, lines, shapes and texture to share parts of you that people probably are not familiar with.

As someone who struggles with anxiety, I’m really grateful that I found my passion in art because it has helped me improve my mental health a lot.

Creating art requires me to be present in the moment. I’m 100% present in the creating process.

I don’t know if you’ve ever had a panic attack or experienced anxiety in some kind of way but anxiety takes all your attention away from the present moment and usually makes you worry about the future or some kind of event.

Thanks to creating art and therapy I was able to stop taking the antidepressants and sedatives years ago.

At some point Pandemic hit and suddenly cancelled all kinds of activities and meeting people were replaced with zoom calls.

This period of time really challenged my mental health. I’m so glad that I had art. I was able to put all my emotions in my work and heal through the process.

What do you do to improve your mental health?

New abstract Floral painting Sunshine on my mind

Hey guys!

After I’ve worked so many large paintings, I felt that I needed some change.

I decided that I will work on some smaller paintings for a while and maybe some of these paintings will inspire larger future paintings.

The Summer is almost over and I have been enjoying and making the most of the last warm days. I was surprised when I saw that one of my roses had decided to bloom again. It inspired me to use yellows in my work.

For me these colors remind some of the great memories from this Summer.

I picked these colors to express the beauty of flowers, nature, sunshine, happiness and freedom.

Large floral abstract painting A moment of bliss

Hey guys!

I’m so happy how my largest painting to the date turned out.

When I started working on it, I was a little bit intimidated by the size of the canvas.

To be honest, the canvas sat in my living room for a month before I started to work on it.

It’s not like I wasn’t working on my other paintings, I was.

From time to time I looked at the large canvas and one day I felt that I was ready. I was ready to start and create something beautiful.

I knew that I needed to wait until I felt the ‘calling’ It was like the canvas was calling me to pour it over with love, passion and beautiful colors.

It’s actually really hard to describe.

The process

As you can see from the photo above, I was working on the floor. The canvas was so huge that it looked a little bit ridiculous when I tried to put it on the easel.

When I worked on the painting, I suddenly knew how I wanted this painting to make people feel. I knew that I want to use pinks and purples to express the beautiful flowers and garden. The light blues express the sky.

I wanted to express love, passion, beauty of garden and flowers through this painting. I totally lost the count of how many layers this painting has because I was in a flow.

Close up of a finished painting

I’m really happy with how it turned out. The painting has a beautiful texture and gold leaf.

It’s a beautiful statement piece and would look amazing in any interior.

Diptych abstract painting Labor of love

For some time I had thought about doing a diptych so I finally decided to do it on two 80x120 cm canvases.

If you’ve been following me for a while on Social media you might remember that few years ago I did a diptych similar to this one. I remembered how much fun I had had.

Summer is the most beautiful season and I wanted this painting to radiate love, beauty, romance, passion, joy, Summer, flowers.

I meditated each time when I started working on this painting. Meditating always gets me in the right mood and gives me good ideas.

I’m really happy with how this painting turned out. Let me know what you think in the comments section

Lilac inspiration

Spring is such a beautiful time of the year because of its blossoms and flowers. My favorite among them is the Lilac. The fragrance of Lilac is heavenly and brings back lovely memories from my childhood.

Each year I take time to sit on the balcony and admire the beauty. There are many different shades of Lilacs on my neighborhood so I don’t have to look far for inspiration.

I thought I’d share some photos with you.

Do you have Lilacs where you live? Which color is your favorite?
